Often times, Special Education students and their parents are at a disadvantage since there are not enough resources available in their immediate residential areas. However, since the infusion of the Internet into the American Society during the mid to late 1990s, more information is available to parents than ever before. Unfortunately, many special education sites and government agencies are spread out vastly all throughout the Internet. The Special Education Home Page neatly organizes a wide variety of resources and web pages into one, condensed site that is very easy to manage. With the ease of maneuverability and a place to call home, students and parents are likely to stay more informed increasing their knowledge in all areas having to do with disabilities and education. As parents and children become more knowledgeable, this will provide a tremendous advantage for the progress of our Special Education student population.
My first position was that of a Special Education teacher at North Hunterdon HS located in Annandale, NJ. This is located very close to the Pennsylvania border in the Western part of the state. There, I had the pleasure of working with the entire Special Education student population during my 18 year tenure. The school system services students with a variety of Developmental Disabilities including students with Physical Handicaps as well. I consider myself extremely fortunate for this experience.
Currently, I am the Disciplinarian and PE Supervisor for Voorhees HS. This is the other secondary school in the North Hunterdon Regional HS District located approximately 5 miles north in Glen Gardner, NJ.
As one can imagine, keeping up with high school kids is not an easy thing because we teachers keep getting older and the kids forever stay the same age! I guess my students have become my biggest motivation and that's the real reason that I began this page. Most of our students with Developmental Disabilities now have an opportunity to continue their education after high school due to the increasing number of support programs at the college level. In fact during the last five years, more Special Education students have gone on to college than ever before! The opportunities students have today to succeed in life after high school are literally endless!
The Special Education Home Page will provide students and parents with relevant information on just about every Special Education topic available. I have also developed personal pages from some of my research and information that I've received from other professionals in the field. Students and parents alike can benefit from a page where ideas and information can be discussed and exchanged with people from all walks of life. Whether it's general information or specific details on a particular disability, there truly is something for everyone!
Whatever area interests you, I truly hope you enjoy The Special Education Home Page!

Up-to-Date Facts, Resources and Ideas for Special Education students and their families.
A comprehensive resource to many areas on the net that will give us the information, knowledge and support needed to help us understand and better live with our disability.
A fairly quick loading but comprehensive home page with a minimum amount of lugging graphics and long sentences. All links are contained on ONE main Special Education Home Page, versus nesting a bunch of menus that you might get lost in. It may take a moment to load, but it truly YOUR "home" page.
We've included some personally written articles in certain sections based upon the things people have learned and experienced, or by reading and hearing thoughts and ideas from a number of resources. These will be updated regularly.
A place we can all come to for support when we get the urge to give up or become frustrated.
A page that will grow with the net. As you find other good links to add referencing disabilities or Special Education topics, please e-mail them to Steve at
specialstudents@shapeup.net.
I have also included several reader tips and comments within my pages that can give you a wide view from a variety of different sources. I do not wish to receive any information about commercial web pages or products for sale. Too many people have been mislead by products that promise miracles and do nothing more than disappoint hopeful consumers. Achieving your goal requires dedication, determination and hard work. Don't be afraid; we're here to help!
Once again, enjoy YOUR Special Education Home Page and please e-mail us with any comments or suggestions that you may have for the site. Write anytime as it will be greatly appreciated. After all, THIS IS YOUR SITE TOO!
